Data Methodology
CourtIQ is an independent research platform. This page documents exactly how every data point is collected, classified, and presented so you always know what you're looking at and how much to trust it.
CourtIQ separates published salary reporting from model-generated projections. Published Exact and Published Range figures are linked to sources that explicitly support the salary amount. When a current salary is not publicly disclosed, CourtIQ creates an independent preseason range using previous salary information, previous-season performance, expected role, position, age, experience and comparable published contracts. When both a previous salary and at least five suitable comparable contracts are available, the preseason midpoint uses a 55% adjusted-previous-salary and 45% comparable-salary weighting. Wider ranges are used when fewer inputs are available. Model values are rounded and constrained by role-based guardrails. CourtIQ Projected Team Payroll is calculated from the bottom up by adding published player salaries and clearly labelled CourtIQ estimates. It is not derived from a predetermined team payroll. After eight and eighteen games, model estimates may be adjusted modestly when the player’s actual role differs from the preseason expectation. Published salaries are never changed. If a credible external team-payroll report is published later, it is displayed separately as an External Estimated Payroll benchmark. It is not treated as official data. If calibration is required, only model-generated salaries may change, subject to confidence weighting and role guardrails. Every previous projection remains available in the historical audit trail.
Salary Data States
● Verified
Two or more independent sources directly support the same figure. Minor discrepancies are shown as a range. Verified means corroborated public reporting, not official EuroLeague or club confirmation. A transfer announcement counts only if it explicitly states the financial amount.
◑ Reported
A single credible source has published the figure without independent corroboration. It should be treated as indicative. Net/gross ambiguity, bonuses and reporting differences may affect the actual amount.
◌ Estimated (CourtIQ Projected only)
No published salary source exists. The figure is a CourtIQ model range (see below). Shown only when CourtIQ Projected is enabled. Clearly labelled and never mixed into sourced payroll or coverage.
Unavailable
No published source directly supports a salary figure for this player. CourtIQ therefore shows no salary in the default view. CourtIQ Projected may display a clearly labelled model estimate. Estimates are never included in sourced coverage or Reported Salaries.
Roster Status
Roster labels describe a player’s 2026–27 EuroLeague club placement. They are separate from salary confidence labels.
Confirmed
Reliable public reporting places the player on that club’s 2026–27 EuroLeague roster (retained, signed, or transferred within the competition).
Provisional
Placement is still provisional during the transfer window — reported or expected, but not yet locked for the season.
Left EuroLeague
The player is no longer on an active 2026–27 EuroLeague roster (departed the competition, archived, or otherwise inactive for this season’s league set).
Roster status and salary confidence are evaluated separately. A player may be confirmed on a team while their salary remains Reported, Estimated or unavailable. The 2026–27 rosters remain provisional during the transfer period and are updated when reliable information becomes available.
How salary rankings use ranges
When a player’s published salary is a range (for example Micic or Mirotic), Top Earners and league salary ranks use the midpoint of that range for sorting and comparison with exact figures. The range itself remains visible on the player profile. Exact disclosed amounts are used as-is.
Net vs. Gross Normalization
EuroLeague salaries are reported inconsistently across markets. Some media publish net (take-home) figures, others publish gross (pre-tax) figures, and many do not specify. Here's how CourtIQ handles this:
When Net is specified
The figure is stored and displayed as-is. Team payroll calculations use net figures exclusively. The label Net appears in the contract card.
When Gross is specified
Displayed with a Gross label. Not included in team net payroll totals to avoid inflation. This prevents double-counting when both net and gross figures exist for a player.
When unspecified
Labelled Unspecified. Excluded from sourced net payroll (same as gross). We do not attempt to convert between net and gross, as tax rates vary significantly by country.
Multi-year totals
If a source reports total contract value (e.g. "3-year, EUR 9M deal"), the figure is stored as Total and is not divided by years. It does not appear in annual payroll calculations.
Estimation Engine (CourtIQ Projected)
CourtIQ separates published salary reporting from model-generated projections. Published Exact and Published Range figures are linked to sources that explicitly support the salary amount. When a current salary is not publicly disclosed, CourtIQ creates an independent preseason range using previous salary information, previous-season performance, expected role, position, age, experience and comparable published contracts. When both a previous salary and at least five suitable comparable contracts are available, the preseason midpoint uses a 55% adjusted-previous-salary and 45% comparable-salary weighting.
Salary Data Coverage Labels
Each team in the League Payroll table receives a coverage badge based only on how complete its documented current-season salary data is — the share of roster players with sourced figures. No Data / Low Coverage / High Coverage describe data completeness, not salary reliability or payroll size, and not budget ratios or basketball performance.
No Data
No roster player has a documented current-season annual salary in CourtIQ yet.
Low Coverage
At least one documented salary, but fewer than 60% of the active roster.
High Coverage
At least 60% of the active roster has documented current-season salary data.
Salary Coverage & Reported Salaries
Documented current-season salary: an exact sourced annual amount or a sourced annual salary range for the active season. Excluded: model estimates, GM fills, total-only contracts without a known annual share, and prior-season amounts. Rankings and League Payroll show coverage as known/total players (e.g. 2/15).
Reported Salaries is the sum of documented net-basis current-season player salaries currently available in CourtIQ. Gross, unspecified-basis, and unconverted non-EUR amounts (for example USD without a documented FX conversion to EUR) are excluded. It may not represent a club’s complete payroll. Sourced ranges prefer a total range display; a midpoint, if shown alone, is marked with ≈.
Reported Team Payroll (hidden until a vetted 2026–27 publication exists) will show published third-party team totals with a source link — estimates of that study, not official club or EuroLeague disclosures. Prior-season team totals are never shown on the 2026–27 site.
Player Statistics
Game logs and derived metrics (PIR, form trends, matchup splits) are based on publicly available box scores from the EuroLeague's official data feed, updated per round. Role tags (Star, Starter, Rotation, Bench) are algorithmically assigned using statistical thresholds, never editorial opinion.
What CourtIQ Is NOT
CourtIQ is not affiliated with EuroLeague Basketball. It does not use agent data, insider sources, or undisclosed contract documents. Every sourced salary figure can be traced to a published URL. CourtIQ Projected estimates are model-generated from disclosed roster context, team budget assumptions, and publicly available performance data, and are clearly labeled as estimates. We are a media aggregation and analysis tool — the same type of research any journalist or analyst could compile manually.
Sources & Reliability
Every sourced data point in CourtIQ is traceable. Here's how we classify reliability and what each confidence level means.
Confidence Levels
| Level | Criteria | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| ● Verified | 2+ independent sources cite the same annual amount and tax basis | Independently corroborated public reporting — not official EuroLeague or club confirmation. Transfer announcements count only when they state the amount. |
| ● Reported | Single credible media source has published the figure | Moderate confidence treat as indicative, not definitive |
| ● Estimated | Model-generated (CourtIQ Projected only) | Statistical projection based on minutes, tier, and team budget |
Roster Status
Roster status and salary confidence are evaluated separately. A player may be confirmed on a team while their salary remains Reported, Estimated or unavailable. The 2026–27 rosters remain provisional during the transfer period and are updated when reliable information becomes available. Labels: Confirmed (reliable placement on a 2026–27 EuroLeague roster), Provisional (still open during the transfer window), Left EuroLeague (not on an active 2026–27 EuroLeague roster).
Source Types
CourtIQ uses publicly available information from basketball news outlets, journalist reports, and official team announcements. Every sourced salary entry includes a direct link to its original source article. In default view, CourtIQ shows only sourced figures derived from public reporting. CourtIQ Projected adds clearly labeled model estimates for undisclosed salaries.
Team Budget Data
External team-payroll reports (for example BasketNews) are optional benchmarks only. They are never treated as official payroll and do not drive the preseason model.
Statistical Data
Player statistics are sourced from the EuroLeague's publicly available box score data. Statistics are updated after each round and include full game logs with all standard categories.
Data Limitations
EuroLeague salary data is not officially disclosed by the league. In default view, CourtIQ displays sourced salary figures derived from public media reports. CourtIQ Projected adds clearly labeled model estimates for undisclosed salaries. No figure should be interpreted as official or legally binding contract data, and actual salaries may differ materially from figures displayed.
About CourtIQ
An independent, source-first research project. Built by a basketball analyst frustrated by the lack of transparent salary data in European basketball.
Why CourtIQ Exists
EuroLeague doesn't publish salary data. Teams don't publish salary data. The result: journalists, agents, fans, and even some front offices work from rumours, scattered articles, and outdated forum posts. CourtIQ was built to fix that one verified source link at a time.
The goal is not to compete with official data (there isn't any). The goal is to aggregate, organise, and contextualise what journalists, outlets, and official club communications have already published and present it in one place with clear confidence labels.
What Makes CourtIQ Independent
No affiliation
Not affiliated with EuroLeague Basketball, Euroleague Basketball Properties, any club, any agent, or any player. No data is received from official league channels.
No advertising
CourtIQ does not carry advertising. No advertiser influences which data is shown, how it's presented, or what editorial decisions are made. The platform is built on research integrity, not click incentives.
Source-first policy
Every sourced salary figure must link to a published article. If a figure cannot be sourced, it does not appear in default view. CourtIQ Projected may display clearly labeled model estimates for undisclosed salaries.
Transparent uncertainty
CourtIQ shows what it doesn't know as clearly as what it does. Coverage gaps, low-confidence estimates, and data limitations are surfaced in the UI not buried in footnotes.
Sources Used
Salary data is aggregated from publicly available basketball journalism, including (but not limited to): Eurohoops, BasketNews, Sportando, EuroHoops.net, official club press releases, L'Equipe, Gazzetta dello Sport, and other European basketball outlets. Player statistics are sourced from the EuroLeague's public data infrastructure.
